New York State Coalition for Excellence in Homeownership Education (NYS CXHE) is a coalition of not-for-profit housing counseling agencies throughout New York State that provide homeownership education and counseling. In New York, over 150 agencies offer comprehensive housing counseling services including pre-purchase counseling, financial education, post-purchase assistance and/or foreclosure prevention services.

Register for the 2015 CXHE Statewide Conference on September 21, 2015

The 2015 CXHE Statewide Conference will be held on September 21, 2015 at the Hilton Albany in Albany, NY. The conference will be preceded by a day of network events on September 20, including a NeighborWorks place-based training on Fair Housing,  a membership meeting, and a networking reception and dinner. CXHE Launches Online Homeownership Education

CXHE has launched a partnership with eHome America to provide online homebuyer education. In an initial pilot, eleven member agencies are providing one-on-one counseling to homebuyers who take online homebuyer education through CXHE. Sign up for the online homebuyer course here.

CXHE Profiled in HUD The Bridge Newsletter

CXHE was profiled in the April 2015 issue of The Bridge, the HUD Office of Housing Counseling newsletter. “Elevating the Housing Counseling Profession” highlights CXHE’s birth in 2007 as a vision for a statewide coalition of counseling agencies and its evolution into an active coalition of over 50 members. CXHE Requests $8.2 Million from New York State

CXHE requests one-time funding from New York State’s mortgage settlement funds to address federal cuts in housing counseling while our industry transitions to more stable funding sources.  Housing counseling helps households obtain better, more affordable financial products that make them more successful homeowners and tenants. CXHE Becomes a 501(c)(3) Organization

CXHE is proud to announce that on November 4, 2014, it has been determined by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. CXHE’s effective date of exemption is November 8, 2013, the date which it was incorporated.

CXHE Announces 2015 Board of Directors

CXHE is proud to announce our 2015 Board of Directors. Congratulations to Charles Butler representing NYC, Stephanie Lane representing the Capital District, and Lucy Raimes as an at-large delegate to the board. We also thank Susan Cotner for her service to CXHE as she steps down from the board.

Officers were elected at the November board call. The 2015 officers are Faith Moore as President, Kathy Germain as Vice President, Michelle DiBenedetto as Secretary, and Sandy Becker as Treasurer. Please click here for the complete list of board members and their districts.

Announcements from the CXHE 2014 Statewide Conference

New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced $40 million in additional funding to extend the Homeowner Protection Program (HOPP) for two more years through September 2017. CXHE receives HOPP funding for foreclosure prevention counseling through anchor partners Empire Justice Center and Center for New York City Neighborhoods.

At the CXHE Networking Reception and Dinner on September 28, 2014, Deborah Boatright, Regional Vice President, Northeast Region, NeighborWorks America announced that CXHE had been awarded with a $175,000 collaboration grant. This grant is renewable for up to three years based on performance and was submitted by CXHE members CDC of Long Island, Home HeadQuarters, RUPCO, and the New York Mortgage Coalition on behalf of CXHE.

Keynote speaker Marian Zucker, President, Office of Finance & Development, New York State Homes and Community Renewal announced that SONYMA will now accept eHome America as an online counseling program for their borrowers, replacing the Genworth platform. Thirteen CXHE members currently use eHome America for online counseling, with more to adopt the service in the near future. CXHE highly values SONYMA’s ongoing support of this partnership, along with their leadership role in affordable homeownership and homeownership education. Click here for full details.
